Bengaluru: New Railway Underpass To Connect Kengeri, Hejjala Stations; Key Details

The South Western Railway (SWR) has given clearance for the construction of a new railway underpass linking the Kengeri and Hejjala stations. This decision follows a request from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to build a six-lane major arterial road through the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, connecting Magadi and Mysuru roads.

SWR swiftly approved the request on May 30, just two weeks after it was submitted by the BDA, as per a Deccan Herald report. According to the SWR’s communication, the structural drawings of the RCC box, thrust bed, retaining wall, height gauge with foundation, and design calculations must be submitted to this office promptly after being duly verified by the Indian Institute of Technology or Indian Institute of Science (IIT/IISc).

Surya Kiran from the forum noted that similar projects falling under Namma Metro’s jurisdiction have already been completed, but criticised the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for poor project timing. Tenders for the railway underpass construction were issued in March last year. Kiran emphasised that had the BDA secured approval before tendering, the railway underpass (RUB) could have been operational by now. He expressed hope that the BDA would expedite the remaining work and open the nearly completed major arterial road to the public soon.
